Ingredients
๐ฅ 2 pounds large yellow onions
๐ฅ 4 tablespoons butter
๐ฅ 2 sprigs fresh thyme
๐ฅ 2 bay leaves
๐ฅ ยพ cup dry white wine
๐ฅ 3 cups beef broth
๐ฅ ยฝ cup chicken broth
๐ฅ 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
๐ฅ 1 beef bouillon cube or 1 teaspoon Better Than Bouillon
๐ฅ 1 baguette
๐ฅ 1 tablespoon olive oil
๐ฅ 8 ounces Gruyรจre cheese
๐ฅ Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
๐จโ๐ณ Caramelize onions in butter over medium heat for 30-40 minutes until deep amber brown
๐จโ๐ณ Add thyme and bay leaves during last 10 minutes of cooking
๐จโ๐ณ Deglaze with white wine and let it reduce by half
๐จโ๐ณ Add beef and chicken broth, bouillon cube, and Worcestershire sauce
๐จโ๐ณ Simmer for 15 minutes to combine flavors
๐จโ๐ณ Preheat broiler and brush baguette slices with olive oil
๐จโ๐ณ Place baguette under broiler until lightly golden
๐จโ๐ณ Top soup with cheese-topped bread slices
๐จโ๐ณ Serve immediately while hot and cheese is melted
